RUBY REVEALS | FOUNDATION FOR DRY SKIN

Suffering with dry skin can make choosing and applying foundation difficult, as it's much harder to achieve the smooth, hydrated finish we're all after. Here are some top tips for foundation on dry skin that can help keep your skin looking hydrated and radiant throughout the day:

It's all in the prep:

Start with hydrating skincare to prepare your base as much as possible. Use a gentle cleanser followed by a toner, and then a rich moisturiser suitable for dry skin. It's also important to exfoliate regularly (but not excessively) to remove any dead skin cells and aid the absorption of moisture. Applying your foundation directly on to the skin without any prep will not only cause the product so set un-evenly, it could also dry out your face even further.
      Use a Hydrating Primer:

Once skincare is complete, and you've given it chance to soak in, apply a hydrating primer to help create a smooth base and lock in moisture. Look for primers with ingredients like glycerin or hyaluronic acid, such as Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base

        Strategic camouflage:

If you have some particularly dry patches, or blemishes you'd like to cover, start with concealer before applying foundation. Use a tapered or fine point brush to dot on a hint of cream concealer where required, using your fingers to tap in. Building up as required, using thin layers until you reach your desired level of cover.

        Choose a Moisturising Foundation:

When choosing a new foundation, look for ones specifically formulated for dry skin. Look for words such as 'hydrating', 'serum' or 'moisturising' on the packaging, and avoid anything with a matte finish. Cream and liquid formulations lend themselves more to dry skin, rather than powder foundations which can accentuate dry patches.

        Wet your tools:

Using a damp sponge or brush to apply foundation can help sheer out the foundation for a more natural finish, and prevent it clinging to dry areas. Run your Beauty Blender under the tap for a few seconds, and squeeze out any excess moisture before application. Build your coverage gradually by layering thin coats and bending until you're happy with the result. This will prevent the foundation from looking cakey, and sitting on top of drier areas.

        Avoid heavy powder:

Less is more when it comes to powder, as it can settle in to fine lines and dry patches making them appear cakey and drawing more attention to them. Stick to using translucent powder only in the areas prone to excess shine, such as the t-zone and finish with a hydrating setting spray.

It's so important to hydrate from the inside out, so remember to always stay hydrated throughout the day and drink plenty of water, keep a small bottle of hydrating facial mist in your bag to refresh throughout the day, and always remember to remove your makeup thoroughly & re-moisturise before bed.
